Duration: Three years.

Location: Chicago, IL, but I'm in Los Angeles for the winter and might stay forever.

Education: BFA from Columbia College, in Columbia, Missouri.

Artistic influences: I grew up going to punk shows in basements, and became very involved in the community; I think that punk rawness found its way into my creative practice. I also find inspiration going on long walks in unfamiliar cities, just taking in my surroundings and seeing it in new ways.
“I just want to be able to adjust to whatever circumstances I am thrown into, and make photographs that communicate who the subject is or the situation I am photographing.”

Work environment: My work environment is constantly changing, especially as I’m on the road a lot of the time. Sometimes, I edit projects in a hotel lobby with my headphones on. Other times, an assistant drives my car while I edit a shoot with my laptop on top of me. As far as shooting goes, I generally work off the tripod and use lights that are easy to move around—or no lights at all. Depends on how I vibe the situation out.

Approach: I do a lot of research before going onto a job or an assignment; that way, I can have a conversation with my subject and vibe them out a bit. I guess my approach is loose—which I think is reflected in my work as well. I just want to be able to adjust to whatever circumstances I am thrown into, and make photographs that communicate who the subject is or the situation I am photographing.

Aspirations: I want to keep on the climb I’m on right now. Hopefully, I can look back in five to ten years and notice a crazy progression. I look at stuff I made three years ago, and the difference is insane. I just want to keep growing and getting better.
