“Ralph Appelbaum Associates asked eight illustrators to create images to help visitors engage in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. I made eleven illustrations for an exhibit called the Human Rights Revolution. They are displayed in flip-books and computer kiosks in the exhibit. They each illustrate a law or right: the handcuff image is for the International Tribunal for the Prosecution of Persons Responsible for Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law Committed in the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia Since 1991; the whip image is for the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment; the silhouette with geometric shapes is for ‘freedom of thought, conscience and religion’; and the boy holding Earth is for Bolivia’s Law of the Rights of Mother Earth.” Christiaan Kuypers, art director; Ralph Appelbaum Associates, design firm; Canadian Museum for Human Rights, client.
