“This was for a personal essay in a Canadian medical magazine. A doctor wrote an account about her relationship with a terminal brain-tumor patient, evoking a very personal story with a sense of peace about ‘doing the right thing.’ I wanted that to come across, even though the story was sad. I portrayed the patient in a bed that reminded me of Sleeping Beauty. From this symmetrical image comes the idea that, ultimately, both women are giving what they need.”
