“In autumn 2015, the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam held Douglas Coupland’s first major solo exhibition in Europe. The show combined Coupland’s own work with loans from his personal collection, creating a rich tapestry of associations and stories. We designed this publication of Coupland’s stories and essays to accompany the exhibition. The typographic cover design references the book’s title, Bit Rot, a term that describes the degeneration of digital software over time. The typography and layouts evoke early computer fonts and displays; the texts, presented in a continuous stream, are visually interrupted by seemingly random changes of typeface, paper stock and glitches.”
