“Each spring in Manitoba, Canada, the largest gathering of snakes in the world awakens after eight months of hibernation; then they leave their limestone crevices and converge in a pit to mate. The males emerge first and linger, waiting for the females to emerge. Up to 100 males might try to mate with one female as she tries to escape the pit, forming a ‘mating ball’ around her. Snakes of Narcisse is a multimedia project that tells this quirky natural history story. The video on National Geographic’s YouTube channel has received more than seven million views.”
