Campaign for the United Nations 2005 World Summit. In September, the United Nations hosted the 2005 World Summit, the largest gathering of world leaders in history. The goal of the advertising was two-fold. First, the U.N. wanted to convince skeptical New Yorkers that the Summit had meaning for everyone—not just the poor and disenfranchised on other continents. Secondly, the U.N. wanted world leaders to know that regular people everywhere—even jaded New Yorkers—wanted them to take action. The idea for the campaign was simple: Everyone's a Delegate. The 2005 World Summit and its outcome could affect every person on the planet. So why not have regular people at the U.N.? And why not have them address the General Assembly? And wouldn't that sound a lot different than the diplomat-speak we're usually subjected to? The answer is, of course, yes it would, especially if it's New Yorkers doing the talking. "Larry" :60 (Open inside the U.N. General Assembly. The room is packed with dignitaries. From the podium, the next speaker is announced) Speaker: Now addressing the U.N., Larry Kirshcner from Manhattan. (A regular New Yorker in non-dignified clothing walks to the podium) Larry: Hello. Almost half the world lives in poverty. That means they live on less than two dollars a day. So you should fix that. Also, if there's any way you could avoid Second Avenue when you come here, that would be great cause you're really messing up my commute. Thanks. What you want to do is take the FDR to 42nd Street and then hang a right on First but… totally fix the poverty thing first. Thank you. Anncr. (VO): Everyone's a Delegate at the 2005 World Summit. Because the outcome affects us all. Get briefed at un.org/summit "Jeremy" :30 (Open inside the U.N. General Assembly. The room is packed with dignitaries. (A regular New Yorker in non-dignified clothing walks to the podium) Jeremy: To be honest, I haven't really heard of a lot of the countries that are represented here today. (Points to one) But I think that since we're all together in one room, we can do some great things: guarantee human rights. And I could help. I'm pretty good at doing spreadsheets, if that's useful. (A regular New Yorker in non-dignified clothing walks to the podium) Eric: Your honorableships…There are a lot of diseases out there that we could probably cure if we put our minds to it. And I think we should. Also, I had this great idea for a flag design. I don't if any of you are looking to switch or anything. I'll leave it up here. Just in case. Anncr.
