New Kid (Open in a nice living room. A 45-year-old man is curled up on the couch, looking through a photo album. His name is David. His wife walks into the room, smiling) Wife: Hey, what are you doing? David: Just looking at our Italy album. (She sits on the couch next to David) Wife: I want to talk to you about something. You know how much I love you…and I will love you forever. You’re my special guy. (David smiles a warm, almost shy smile) Wife: Guess what’s happening today? Title Card: What it feels like for a child to be told they're getting a new sibling. Wife: I have a lot of love to give. And because of that, we’re going to be adding a new member to the family. (David looks thrown. The wife gets up and hurriedly walks over to the room’s entrance. She motions for someone to come in. A man enters. She takes his hand and walks him back over to the couch. The man is fifteen years younger than David. And very handsome) Wife: David, this is Michael. (She fondles Michael’s arm) Isn’t he gorgeous? (David doesn’t quite understand) Wife: (To David) You were just as cute when you were his age. She then mouths the words, “No he wasn’t." David: Did I…do something? (She and Michael sit on the couch) Wife: Oh honey, nothing. I still love you just as much. David: But… Wife: (Switching gears) I know this is hard, but no matter how frustrated you get, you can never hit Michael. Because you’re the older one. (Pause) Wife: (Looking at both men) Who’s the older one? (Michael points to David. David slowly raises his hand) Wife: (To David) That’s right. Now here’s the exciting thing. You get to share a room. How fun is that going to be?! (She motions toward Michael…) Wife: Give Michael a hug? He’d like that very much. (David doesn't move. He just stays on the couch, head down) Wife: (Encouraging David) C’monnnnn. (Michael stands up and walks over to David. He hugs David, who still doesn’t move. Wife: (Proud) That’s wonderful. Husband: You gotta be kidding me. Title Card: The second kid is a whole new ball game. Title Card: To share your own stories, visit Luvsdiapers.com
