We launched our first creative project for Google in the form of an online video to promote Google's growing suite of Maps products. In the spot, a labyrinth is re-imagined as a massive, handcrafted version of Google Maps, built by VB&P and 1st Avenue Machine. The gyroscopic structure leads the navigation of the iconic blue sphere through an elaborate city, and the viewer follows as the sphere discovers and rates restaurants, checks into a local barbershop, and ultimately finds its way to a bowling alley to meet up with friends. The idea of building a tactile world of Google Maps was inspired by the classic labyrinth game, where the player must get from one end of the platform to the other. The cube structure was a great way to showcase many of Google Maps’ product features and tools, adding a layer of dimension to Google Maps that users may not yet know exists, while also showing that getting from Point A to Point B can be a journey of unexpected fun and exploration.
