“Melbourne isn’t like other Australian tourist destinations. Instead of big landmarks and beautiful beach vistas, it’s a patchwork of little cultural experiences. And these take time to discover. For Tourism Victoria, we created remotecontroltourist.com, an immersive experience where four human Remote Control Tourists, equipped with live streaming cameras, GPS devices and bikes, explored Melbourne for five days. They carried out almost 3,000 unique requests from Twitter and Facebook users in 158 countries. Video clips from the Tourists' explorations are archived on the website, which also utilizes the APIs of Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps, Foursquare, Instagram and YouTube to allow potential visitors to really get to know Melbourne before they get on a plane.”
