HBO posed a unique challenge: create a title sequence that at once grounded viewers in the mid 1930's America, while communicating the presence of an on-going battle between good and evil spanning history and time. In addition, the piece needed to speak to the inherent context of the show, a traveling carnival. With our idea, we strived to capture the essence of Carnivale and embody these powerful concepts visually, designer Vonetta Taylor explained. "Diving through tarot cards to reveal the world at hand resonated that air of magic and responded to HBO's needs on all levels."
