Maps of urban areas present unique design challenges: continually-referenced and data-rich information. Urban Mapping initially focused on a product that supports way finding in areas where complicated spatial relationships exist. A unique printing technology was enhanced with R&D (and patent applications) to create a tool that provides a high degree of interactivity despite its 'low-tech' appearance. Three thematic layers (street grid, subway, neighborhoods) allow users to control what they see, limiting extraneous information.
