The Kingdom title sequence is an eight-decade-long history lesson on the controversial relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States—told in three minutes. The glue of that relationship and the glue of the sequence, is oil. Both the graphics and the story present oil as the commodity that has played the largest role in American foreign policy. Built of archival audio and footage integrated seamlessly with graphics, it takes viewers from the birth of the Kingdom in the 1930s to the present day.
