The image Diesel is a personal work from a long term series that incorporates roadside environments throughout the southwest and the man-altered landscape. This image was used in the most recent 2005, Workbook 27 and appears on page 495, part of a two-page layout featuring my fashion and location work. The socio-political ironies of this location were overwhelming. The seemingly archaic sign takes upon the hopefullness that fossil fuels will someday be obsolete. One has to ponder how future generations would view this location wondering what is diesel? I took the time to light the sign with my battery-powered lighting equipment and further darkened the sky with a graduated sepia toned filter.
