The Discovery Channel commissioned short films to be shown between the longer documentaries. I had previously seen cliff divers in action while on a photoshoot in Acapulco. I had written a brief outline for a short film and was lucky enough to be commissioned to make a series of films including the Cliff Divers. I tried to show the true majesty of what they do as an every day occupation and the feelings they have whilst performing the dives. "Cliff Divers" 4:00 Music: Up and under. (Opens on a close-up of a man and then pulls back to reveal him standing high on a cliff with water splashing below. The dive starts with a takeoff to clear the cliff face and then the plunge into the water. The film cuts back and forth between several men doing swan dives, tucks and rolls into the gorge and splashing into twelve feet of water at the bottom. The divers must time their jumps to coordinate with the wave and tide action to ensure they are in the maximum amount of water at the bottom. The climb of the divers up the cliff from the water is thrilling. One misstep would be disaster. In addition to the action of the divers, one is interviewed discussing his feelings before, during and after the dive. A 14-year-old girl also discusses training to become a cliff diver)
