The Albertine Rift is rich in rainfall, deep lakes, volcanic soil and biodiversity. It is also one of the most densely populated places on Earth. There are no easy solutions here to the violent conflicts that erupt over the desperate competition for land and resources. And in this land of spectacular beauty the natural world and its wildlife is often the loser. But in the face of a desperate population with few options there are no simple answers. With global population predicted to reach nine billion by 2045, this corner of Africa is a perfect example of what is at risk.
