This image comes from my ongoing photo coverage of the Mendenhall Glacier for the past 30 years. For 25 years, I have published an annual 12-month color calendar on Juneau, Alaska. This image illustrates one of the months. Except for this moment, I have never seen the lake, directly in front of the glacier, mirror calm. The thirteen-mile long glacier generates a constant breeze no matter how subtle, that keeps the lake surface broken.
