Procession of the Dead, by Darren Shan, is a thriller set in a Gotham-esque city ruled by a man called The Cardinal. In one scene, The Cardinal is playing with shadow puppets and he suddenly moves his hands away from the puppets, yet they continue to move. It's creepy and mysterious; I wanted to evoke that mood with the cover. I made 'shadow puppets' out of the title by putting metal letters behind a sheet, and lighting everything from behind. Then I photographed the set-up."
