Ken Barber, type director/designer
House Industries, foundry
Design of the generously proportioned Smidgen began as an effort to create a full-figured face for strong yet sensitive typography. Initial inspiration came from lettering specimens by Dennis Jones and another unidentified artist spotted in an old automotive culture book. With only a handful of letters serving as creative influence, a complete character set was rendered in pencil before ultimately being digitized. Smidgen was released in 2011 along with a complementary drop shadow font.
