I did an illustration for a food article that featured Lynette Cayson and her beautifully made, high-quality culinary attire. Her San Francisco company makes chef jackets and uniforms of 100 percent pima cotton with covered buttons, detailed stitching for every major restaurant from coast to coast. She liked my illustration and wondered if I could produce an image that would make a statement for her year-end client gift; a company-made canvas bag. We worked through several sketches and I had incredible freedom, but nothing was working. Her client base is so wide, the image had to appeal to many types of people. I love drawing type and was doodling on sketches when I realized this was the perfect solution; stating what was unique about the jacket, using type.
