Emily Oberman and her team designed the opening sequence for the 38th season of Saturday Night Live. Inspired by the lights and architecture of New York City at night, the dynamic, highly graphic sequence deconstructs the cast, title typography and the city itself through a shimmering, slightly trippy prism of dots and angled slices. By splicing and layering moving and still images, and using type that is formed from dots, Oberman was able to maintain the 'New York City is alive at night' theme while creating a look that is different, fresh, and brings a new emphasis to the cast members. The logo is typeset in Gotham Ultra and was done prior to this open. All additional text is redrawn and rounded version of Gotham Thin and a custom dot version of Gotham.
