The Rand Daily Mail was a South African newspaper published from 1902 to1985, when it closed after relentless pressure from the apartheid government. Tasked with reviving the brand as rdm.co.za, Modern Museum went with the theme Rand Daily Mail rebooted,' updating an image of Dutch colonial administrator— and Cape Towns' 'founding father'—Jan van Riebeeck for modern times. The digitally illustrated image was used as part of an advertising launch campaign in national newspapers and magazines as well as social media.
