“Buffalo, New York, is a city with many diverse neighborhoods separated along distinct historical lines. I wanted to record those divisions before gentrification and other forces render them unclear. To capture the feeling of being lost in a dense, urban environment, I employed a style suggestive of a maze. The level of detail and style of line is determined by which area is portrayed. Green space, residential areas, cemeteries and bodies of water are all rendered in different ways. I illustrated the map by hand over the course of two to three weeks.”
