“Outcast reformats the drama of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice into a newspaper. Although the play deals with various themes and issues, I chose to emphasize the topics of anti-Semitism and homosexuality. The former is addressed explicitly through the relationship between Antonio and Shylock; the latter is addressed implicitly through the friendship between Antonio and Bassanio. I wanted to design a newspaper that utilizes only typography and infographics, without the use of photography. In doing so, I wish to demonstrate the complex characters and overlapping layers of Shakespeare’s play.” Typefaces: Domaine Display, Domaine Text, National, Newzald.
