Comments by Peter Gomes:
“I really don’t know that much about fresh produce. My objective was to create a site that not only showcased my work, but that also represented me as a creative with garden-fresh ideas. With that in mind I gave myself a head of lettuce.
“My approach was to treat this project as a blank canvas that would remain loose enough to cultivate different ideas. As I planted one idea, the next one was already sprouting and flourishing in my mind.
“Armed with a childhood practice of peeling tangerines, a song about asparagus and a buffet of thoughts, I proceeded to fuse stop animation, typography and my portfolio into one. I knew I wanted to work beyond paper and pixel and there was no way to create the opening sequence without shooting it frame-by-frame. It was a technique I had experimented with while studying film and I was eager to explore it again.
“In the end, what resulted from a need to showcase my work (and a head of lettuce) is an experimental site that highlights my strengths in the art of visual stimulation—the rest is fresh produce.”
