“Skin is the first line of defense to protect our bodies from trauma and infection, but an individual with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) lacks a critical protein that binds together the layers of skin. Without this protein, the skin tears apart, blisters and shears off, leading to severe pain, disfigurement and wounds that never heal. These photos for the EB Research Partnership document the daily struggle of Darren, a young child with EB, and his parents, who tirelessly love and support him.”
