Two images from my personal series Somebody’s Kid, which examines the idea that no matter where we end up or what kind of adult we become, we all start out as vulnerable, innocent children. I photographed neighborhood kids and my children’s friends; it was fun to visualize them as dictators and Russian cosmonauts. The custom-made costumes are meant to feel oversized and awkward. We sourced the cosmonaut helmet off eBay from Russia and added the ‘cccp.
