“For the fifth installment of the New York Times Magazine’s special print-only section of the paper, our editors focused on ‘the great American eclipse of 2017.’ The goal of the package was to utilize and rethink the traditional broadsheet section in order to excite and inspire our readers about the eclipse, ultimately with the hopes that they might traverse across the country to see this incredibly rare phenomenon on August 21, 2017. I commissioned designer and artist Geoff McFetridge to create illustrations for the cover and throughout the section, adding a whimsical, human contrast to the technical and scientific information.”
