“The Pearlfisher Garden transported visitors into an underwater world. Beneath a 3-D printed sculpture of a pearl diver, or Japanese ama, made from recycled polylactic-acid plastic, specimen planting including cacti, succulents and exotics was used to juxtapose the beauty and possible desertification of the world’s most precious garden. At the center sat the Coral Man, from sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, which was surrounded by 500 Tŷ Nant mineral water bottles to fill the boundary walls, representing how much plastic packaging is thrown into the oceans every 2.5 seconds.”
