America’s Girls. “In this project, I analyze and deconstruct the narrative of American beauty. I have photographed a variety of young American women between the ages of six and sixteen in Georgia, focusing on adolescence as a transitional stage of emotional discovery. In this current time of social media, we are inundated with images that present unrealistic standards of female bodies. There is an urgency for images that challenge these expectations, and as photographers, you have the choice to create a body of work that shows a variety of individuals rather than perpetuating the altered images of women we see in media. These images serve as sincere photographs of real young women.”
