“When musicians couldn’t find the sound they were looking for in a music studio, they recorded in a place that might surprise you: the bathroom. The tile and porcelain created a natural reverb that made music shine. So, Scrubbing Bubbles, a cleaning brand that functions exclusively in that space, created B Studios, the untold story of famous songs recorded in bathrooms.
“Paid social introduced the idea with acts like Cheap Trick, Los Lobos and Linda Ronstadt, who have recorded some of their biggest hits in studio bathrooms. We amplified the campaign with relevant placements and an immersive listening experience: audio ads on Spotify, minipodcasts on SoundCloud, print in Entertainment Weekly and Rolling Stone, wild postings near music clubs and bars, and stall door posters and mirror clings in the bathrooms of those same places. All campaign elements invited music fans to scan our Spotify code to hear famous bathroom recordings on our four Spotify playlists.
“B Studios also partnered with Rolling Stone and artist Lauren Alaina, who had garnered 100 million spins on Spotify. Alaina rerecorded Cheap Trick’s ‘Surrender’ in the same bathroom at Sound City Studios that the band had recorded in 42 years earlier. The result was an amazing video for fans on Rolling Stone’s website and the release of a new single on Spotify from Alaina’s record label.”
