“This was the second time that performing artist Nana and I have collaborated. The first was in New York, and this time was in Los Angeles. Who knows where the next will be. She is incredible and so fun to photograph. She has a relationship with her body and a movement like nothing I’ve seen before. For this shoot, I told Nana I wanted to photograph her in a way that felt like it could be from the past. Like an old silent film. One of my favorite photographers is the Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide, and I definitely was inspired by her for this project.”
