“I photographed Verna (top) and Maggie (bottom) as part of a portrait series for Meals on Wheels. I shadowed a social worker on home visits to access various Meals on Wheels clients. Verna’s room was so tiny, I could barely t her into my frame, let alone set up a light. I peeled back a layer of material that was covering her window in order to illuminate her face. It was a hot San Francisco afternoon, and I made sure that Maggie drank plenty of liquid during our shoot. The moment she sipped her drink ended up being my favorite capture.”
