Artigo was inspired by Nicolas Jenson’s early serif typefaces. Writes type designer Joana Correia: “It was my interpretation of a serif font for long text that would keep the handwriting influence of the first typefaces that still had many connections with calligraphy. These influences are more clear in the italic, which is very cursive and fast looking.” Artigo is still in development, with the Cyrillic to be finished in 2021. Correia also finished designing Artigo Display, an expressive cursive design, in 2018.
