“WirtschaftWoche, a business weekly magazine in Germany, reached out to me to illustrate an article about the Japanese central bank and its expansive monetary policy, and I did have something to offer—my Japanese heritage and insight. When designer Claudia Immig and art director Patrick Zeh shared their idea of incorporating a Japanese banknote and cherry blossom in the illustration with me, my lightbulb went ‘Ah! Origami!’ I have so many memories of making origami pieces when I was a child. So, to me, this piece is an honest and personal illustration even if it’s a commercial piece. I actually made several origami trees for reference.”
