“For The Doll Test: Choosing Equality by Carole Boston Weatherford. The book explores the pioneering research of Black psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark, who conducted experiments by asking Black children to pick a preferred doll from four identical dolls that differed only by skin color. The majority chose the white doll, revealing the harmful impact of segregation on their self-esteem. When I first read this manuscript, I thought of my dad, Elmo Cooper, and his experience living in a segregated North Carolina.”
