"X-Tra is a Los Angeles-based, independently-published, nonprofit arts and culture magazine. Postioned in oppositon to mainstream art magazines endowed with high production value, X-tra is a simple 2-color publication that sought to embrace the anti-aesthetic and unpredictablity of web press newspaper printing," said typographers Danielle Foushée and Brad Bartlett. "We were invited to design the magazine's 4th volume, including a new logo and indentity materials. We were also given the opportunity to extend the interplay of form and content down to even the smallest component of design—the letterform itself. A number of original and modified typeface designs were generated in response to individual articles."
