"Mr. Jeremy Fisher's dinner party complete with roasted grasshopper and a fine lace tablecloth, in a very wet dining room was a great image to illustrate. Creating the characters, the dinner guests Sir Issac Newton, and Mr. Alderman Ptolemy Tortoise, in a new way is one of the wonderful challenges of illustrating classic children's stories. To set the proper tone, I felt the elegant white lace tablecloth was the key to the picture."
