"Every year the Dallas Morning News publishes a 70–80 page special section previewing the upcoming football season. In 2001, SMU quarterback Kelan Luker was the school's newest hope for a troubled football program. The theme of the special section that year was heat and all of the individual covers within section had to address that. The headline for Luker's portrait was 'Burning Desire.' With the cooperation of the Collin County Community College Fire Science Division, I photographed Luker in front of a 25-foot-high fireball made by shooting fuel at high pressure against a heavy steel plate at the school's Fire Rescue Training Complex in McKinney, Texas. The shoot took almost two months of research and was done without assistants. Photographed with a Canon EOS 1N and strobe lights."
