"A publisher of a popular German magazine contacted me to illustrate a new Raymond Carver short story. It didn't take much time to come up with the image as the pivotal scene in the story takes place in a motel room during one night. The drama was easy to depict, with the couple with their backs to each other, rumpled bed, the man with a drink, and the woman looking out the open window with the glowing motel neon sign. A scene straight out of a movie (or a Raymond Carver story). I very much enjoy illustrating fiction as I usually have greater creative freedom and oftentimes involves complex relationships between people." 11 x 14.
