"Interior image from The Wonders of Donal O'Donnell by Gary Schmidt. Just before I got into picture books, I got my feet wet with two chapter book projects. This was one of them. The text spoke of black clouds as a storm approached in this Irish folktale. I got literal with those clouds... It was a fun painting to try to pull off. I compare myself to N.C. Wyeth as a picture maker (without that grand studio and all that beautiful land and oh yeah, all that talent)."
