"This was shot while working on a personal series of portraits, walking in New Orleans with art director Suzanne Rubin. The degree of scrutiny at the time was rejecting everyone and then there was Clovis, a bulldog puppy. Standing in an antique store in the French Quarter, really to escape the heat on the street. I was looking for people, not pets, but ultimately there's something about a period chair and fine blue silk. Generally you don't let the dog sit on a $2,000 chair. Clovis made it clear that 'It's mine and you can't have it, so go sit somewhere else, please. However, you can take my picture, but make it snappy.'"
