"This image was commissioned by Newsweek, but was never published, I'm not sure what the reason was, but there were most likely other news happenings that week. That's the thing about news weeklies, something can always happen to kill the work. It was created for a story about school violence, around the time of Columbine shootings. I remember seeing a clip on TV of small children holding hands and running from a school (not sure if this was Columbine or another incident) but it stuck in my mind. So when I was commissioned to work on this image, I wanted to include it in the composition. Paper cut-out children and a gun seemed to me to be the best way to contrast innocence and violence!"
