“We were contacted by a good friend, Dan Fredericks of Fredericks & Associates. His client, Gray's Brewing Company, was looking to redo all of their beer packaging. Gray's Brewing Company, one of the oldest family-owned beverage companies in the nation, has been in business for over 140 years. It is steeped in the grand tradition of creating the finest beers made from the finest ingredients. They wanted packaging that would stand out, be unique within their brand architecture and beg to be noticed on the cluttered shelves of the microbrew category,” said art director Peter Bell. “With such a long and interesting history, I felt it was important for the packaging of the Oatmeal Stout to reflect the bold individual taste while giving a nod to the company's history: a bold type treatment that not only demands attention, but represents the bold, complex taste of the beer. That coupled with imagery of Joshua C. Gray himself-founder of Gray's Brewing Company-allows this Stout to stand alone and be recognized. A sort of old-world flavor re-energized for today's sophisticated market.”
