"I redesigned SKI magazine with editor Kendall Hamilton in 2003. A great visionary, Kendall had this magazine all figured out by the time I was brought in and handed me a blank slate with only a few directives: make it tasty, make it worthy of the sport and make me want to read it. SKI magazine was nominated for design in the 2005 National Magazine Awards for the work we did throughout 2004. Bringing photographers such as Brent Humphreys, Fredrik Broden, Darren Braun, Jesse Chehak, and Tom Tavee, alongside established SKI action shooters like Scott Markewitz and Jonathan Selkowitz gave the magazine a much tastier look at the sport. SKI's redesign incorporated complex navigation solutions adapted from generic ski hill symbology and has a decidely san serif type direction employing elements of the strict gridding I was exploring back within TravelEtc. magazine."
