Paint it Black. "This image was for a review of a book titled Paint It Black by Janet Fitch. It's a psychologically dark narrative about an artist who commits suicide. I was glad to get this assignment because it would certainly cheer me up after the previous assignment, which was about a guy who enjoyed mutilating sheep before he killed his neighbors in a heroin-induced stupor. I had the idea to do a mostly black painting, but the art director preferred I do a painting of a guy doing a black painting. The woman leaning over the artist is suggesting a different color palette with her cigarette smoke. While I painted this, I listened to the Rolling Stones song, ‘Paint it Black,’ and the AC/DC song, ‘Back in Black.’"
