"The main lobby of the Cologne (Germany) central train station will be for global football fans what the Sistine Chapel in Rome is for the admirers of Michelangelo’s frescos,” said TBWA\Chiat\Day San Francisco. “For adidas, the Berlin office of TBWA\Germany has created the world’s largest indoor football-fresco, a football cathedral during the 2006 FIFA Soccer World Cup™. The almost 9,000 square foot fresco covers the complete ceiling of the main entrance hall located right next to the Cologne Cathedral, one of the best-known landmarks in Germany. The fresco displays the ten best worldwide adidas football players like football gods in football heaven. The players featured in the fresco are: Michael Ballack (FC Chelsea), Lukas Podolski (FC Bayern München), David Beckham (Real Madrid and England), Zinédine Zidane (Real Madrid and France), Raúl (Real Madrid and Spain), Kaka (AC Milano and Brazil), Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona and Argentina), Juan Román Riquelme (Villareal CF and Argentina), Nakamura (Celtic Glasgow and Japan) and Djibril Cissé (FC Liverpool and France). The artwork for the fresco was created by Felix Reidenbach. The illustration took almost 40 days to complete, approximately four days per figure.”
