“Until the mid-1980s, the visual arts program at Sarah Lawrence College, a small, private, liberal arts institution located in Bronxville, New York, was completely housed in one building. The program has since overflowed into additional makeshift spaces throughout the campus,” said marketing manager Erin Zielinski. “The new building brings the visual arts department under one roof, accommodating its varied needs while meeting new safety and environmental standards. The 60,000-square-foot Monika A. and Charles A. Heimbold Visual Arts Center is integrated into the campus landscape and is sensitive to the undulating topography and scale of surrounding structures. New York-based Poulin + Morris programmed, designed, documented and supervised the implementation of a comprehensive environmental graphics, donor recognition and wayfinding sign program for the Center. The program relies primarily on typography that is utilitarian in form and interpreted in various building materials.”
