“Country is a new Manhattan restaurant that serves sophisticated contemporary dishes featuring local and organic ingredients. The restaurant is located in a restored historic building, and the interior is an eclectic mix of the original architectural details and mid-century modern furniture. For their brand identity, the client wanted something that made use of the letter C in the restaurant's name that would also be striking and sophisticated, playful and tasteful. We used the letter C in an unusual way, changing the mark for every application and overlapping two typographically different C's to create a new and interesting shape each time. We chose quirky letterforms from various time periods to convey an old-world feeling, and used overprinting and a bright color palette to add a modern sensibility,” said art director/designer Andrea Brown. “By separating the mark from the Country logo—they are rarely seen together—we created a brand identity that is understated and can be visible throughout the restaurant without the design feeling overused.”
