“Savannah Hill is a high-end time-share community being developed on the Island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The client was looking for something that was stylish, upbeat and clean while, at the same time, capturing the spirit of the island, which has a history of colonial settlements, antique homes and old plantations and churches,” said designer Lanny Sommese. “Our conceptual approach was drawn from photos of old island structures with wrought iron detailing. Using late nineteenth-century English monogram and cipher designs as our point of departure, we did a number of variations of the ‘S’ and ‘H’ letterforms. After selecting the one with the most visual appeal, it occurred to us that not only did the design relate to the island’s rich history, it also echoed the island vegetation, which, in some places, is thick with intertwining vines. We amplified that a bit, and the final version of the logo was in place.”
