"From 2003 to 2004 I was given a biweekly column called ‘Cakewalk’ to illustrate, and this piece was for one of the columns, titled ‘On Mismatched War at Home.’ Each week, it became great practice and a challenge to work my conceptual muscles and painting skills. Erin, the author of the column, wrote about a variety of issues concerning politics, the African-American community and her personal life. This article dealt with how the media focused on war in Iraq, while overlooking the tragic, random drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles that left a thirteen-year-old boy dead."
